Attractions
Located along the northern coast of Sardinia, in the municipality of Aglientu, Portobello di Gallura is surrounded by an unspoilt natural landscape featuring Mediterranean scrub, granite rock formations and small bays with crystal-clear waters.
The coastline around Portobello offers secluded coves and beaches of sand and granite, ideal for swimming, snorkelling or simply enjoying a relaxing day away from the busiest tourist resorts. A little further south lie some of the most beautiful beaches in the Aglientu area, including Vignola Mare, Naracu Nieddu, Lu Litarroni and Monti Russu, surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation and wonderfully wild scenery.
Heading west along the coast, you will reach Costa Paradiso, one of the most spectacular destinations in northern Sardinia, renowned for its impressive red granite cliffs contrasting with the deep blue sea. Here, it is well worth following the scenic trail to Li Cossi Beach, a small bay enclosed by rocky walls, or exploring the many secluded coves along the coastline. The same area is also home to the famous Cupola di Antonioni, one of the most unusual architectural landmarks on the Gallura coast.
To the north, one of the most rewarding excursions is Santa Teresa Gallura, a lively town with a charming historic centre, restaurants, cafés, shops and beautiful views over the Strait of Bonifacio. Just a few minutes from the town lies Capo Testa, one of the most spectacular natural landscapes in northern Sardinia, characterised by enormous granite formations sculpted by the wind and small bays of crystal-clear water. From here, you can also walk to the enchanting Valle della Luna, particularly beautiful at sunset.
Those wishing to spend a day exploring the sea can continue to Palau, the main departure point for boat trips to the La Maddalena Archipelago National Park. A day among the islands offers the opportunity to discover some of Sardinia's most famous seascapes, visiting Spargi, Budelli, Santa Maria and Caprera, as well as beautiful bays such as Cala Corsara, Spiaggia del Cavaliere and Cala Coticcio. The archipelago is also ideal for snorkelling, catamaran trips, sailing excursions and private boat tours. On request, we can arrange private excursions for our guests by motorboat, catamaran or sailing boat to the La Maddalena Archipelago, selecting the most suitable option according to the group's preferences.
Portobello is also an excellent starting point for discovering the inland areas of Gallura, which offer a striking contrast to the coastline while being equally fascinating. Aglientu, the small village to which Portobello belongs, retains the peaceful atmosphere of traditional Gallura villages and is a pleasant stop for experiencing local life away from the seaside resorts.
For a more extensive inland excursion, visitors can explore Aggius and Tempio Pausania, surrounded by forests, granite mountains and rural landscapes. Aggius is one of the most characteristic villages in Gallura, known for its traditional crafts and the extraordinary landscape of Valle della Luna, also known as Piana dei Grandi Sassi. Tempio Pausania is the main historic town of Alta Gallura, with granite buildings, charming squares, cafés and restaurants.
History and archaeology enthusiasts can head towards Arzachena, one of the most important areas for discovering Sardinia's Nuragic civilisation. Highlights include Nuraghe La Prisgiona, the Coddu Vecchiu Giants' Tomb and the Li Muri necropolis. These ancient archaeological sites offer fascinating insights into early settlements and rituals, revealing a side of Sardinia that goes far beyond its beaches.
Travelling west, you can spend a day in Castelsardo, one of Sardinia's most picturesque medieval villages. Its historic centre rises around an ancient castle and features panoramic alleyways, artisan shops and wonderful views over the Gulf of Asinara. Along the way, the famous Elephant Rock is also worth a stop: an impressive natural trachyte formation shaped by erosion.
Those looking for the more sophisticated and glamorous side of Gallura can visit the Costa Smeralda. Porto Cervo, Baja Sardinia and Poltu Quatu offer designer boutiques, marinas, restaurants and nightlife, while the coastline is home to some of Sardinia's best-known beaches, including Capriccioli, Liscia Ruja, Romazzino, Grande Pevero and Piccolo Pevero.
During a stay in Portobello di Gallura, it is also worth discovering the local cuisine. Farm stays and restaurants in the inland areas offer traditional Gallura specialities such as zuppa gallurese, ravioli, roast suckling pig, local cheeses and traditional desserts, accompanied by regional wines, particularly Vermentino di Gallura. For guests wishing to enjoy an even more exclusive experience, we can also arrange private chef dinners directly at the villa, featuring local ingredients, traditional recipes and authentic Sardinian flavours in the privacy of your holiday home.
Portobello di Gallura offers the perfect setting for a varied holiday in northern Sardinia. One day can be spent exploring the secluded coves near the villa, the next enjoying a boat trip through the La Maddalena Archipelago, followed by an excursion to traditional inland villages or archaeological sites. Evenings can be devoted to dinner by the sea, a meal at a traditional Gallura farmhouse restaurant or an exclusive private dining experience in the villa.
It is precisely this location, between the sea, nature and the inland countryside, that makes Portobello di Gallura an ideal base for discovering the many different sides of northern Sardinia.

Great interior design, spacious rooms, a large pool, and a small beach near by with a convenience store a hundred meters away. A lovely place to spend a week, but a car is "must have". Would have loved a softer bed, that might just be me.

Fantastic experience! we spent a week at Villa Mariù and Amelie at the end of May, and despite a few moments of rain, we relaxed and had a great time. The Villa is spectacular, practically on the sea....and what a sea! I recommend it to everyone as an experience, plus Sardinia Unlimited is very professional and helpful for anything. Thank you all!
