The best places for a family holiday in Sardinia. Children

Summer holidays are finally here and you can't wait to spend some time with your children. There are many destinations to choose from, but Sardinia is definitely the right one for you. Do you know why? We tell you in this guide to the best places and attractions in one of the Mediterranean's most beautiful holiday destinations.

Firstly, what makes Sardinia ideal for holidays with babies and children is its shallow and crystal clear water, which allows your little darlings to play and have fun in complete safety. In fact, many beaches have been awarded the prestigious title of Blue Flag Beaches, an acknowledgement that certifies the quality and cleanliness of waters and lidos.

But there's more. If you are looking for a destination in connection with nature, Sardinia is full of unspoilt natural landscapes, national parks and a wide range of flora and fauna to be discovered. A lot of experiences to both entertain and educate children of all ages.

A piece of advice: the island is very vast, so it is ideal to tour it by car and choose the areas to visit in advance. If you would like to request a quotation to rent a car in Sardinia, you can contact us here.

San Teodoro and its surroundings

Our first stop is on the east coast of Sardinia, about 30 kilometers south of Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport: it is San Teodoro, a small fishing village with a tourist calling. Its most famous beach is the marvelous La Cinta, which is easy to reach by car and has a parking lot just a few steps from the entrance. Here you will find facilities such as beach clubs, bars, toilets and showers. If you prefer, you can still stay on the free beach, although, especially in high season, it gets very crowded.

An alternative and entertaining activity for young and old is a visit to the adjacent San Teodoro lagoon, a true treasure of nature where you can admire the several pink flamingos that inhabit it all year round.

Leaving San Teodoro in the direction of Capo Coda Cavallo, you will find one of the most beautiful beaches not only in this area but on the entire island, whose seabed is so shallow that children of all ages and heights can swim safely. It’s Cala Brandinchi, surrounded by a pine forest perfect for your babies’ afternoon siesta.

The best solution for a family holiday is to stay in a villa for rent in San Teodoro in total relaxation and freedom. So here are some suggestions on the most suitable child-friendly accommodation:

  • Villa Danza dei Fenicotteri: large spaces decorated in the Gallurese style can accommodate more families together. We like it because it has every comfort for the needs of your little ones, a lovely private pool, and is very close to Cala Brandinchi.
  • Villa Beth: spacious and full of light, complete with everything you may require. The extra touch is its vast lawn with a private pool, where your beloved children can run and play in the open air.
  • Villa Lara d’Oriente: surrounded by greenery, this holiday villa in Sardinia is perfect for your retreat. Children can play in the large outdoor garden and dive into the private swimming pool only a few meters high.

Santa Teresa

For the second stopover, we chose the northern stretch of the coast of Sardinia, which begins in Santa Teresa di Gallura and ends at Costa Paradiso. The area is easily reachable by traveling a few kilometers either from Alghero Airport or the Port of Porto Torres or Olbia Airport.

Among the Santa Teresa di Gallura beaches that have been awarded the blue flag is Rena Bianca, optimal for babies and toddlers as it is naturally sheltered from the wind. Furthermore, its advantages include a wide car park, an entrance to the beach that is easily accessible with pushchairs, and rest stops. An alternative nearby is the Rena Majore beach, a small jewel of white sand bordered by a clear, shallow sea. Here, too, there is no lack of essential facilities for children, a beach club, parking, and even a shady pine forest where you can stay during the hottest hours.

An experience that should not be missed is a visit to the La Maddalena Archipelago, home to a national park and an authentic piece of heaven. You can get there in convenience by organizing a boat trip with departure directly from Santa Teresa. On board comfortable boats you will discover fascinating sea bottoms and charming coves. If you want to book it in advance, let us know here, and we will take care of everything!

If you need some ideas for staying in a wonderful family holiday villa in Santa Teresa and Costa Paradiso, we recommend:

  • Villa Filugnana: this villa for rent in Sardinia has a rustic and lively style. Its proximity to the beaches and the services at your disposal makes it an ideal place for family vacations.
  • Villa Vivienne: the stunning sea view and small children's pool of this Sardinia holiday villa will provide you with unforgettable family moments.
  • Casa Roccia: a villa for rent in Costa Paradiso equipped with all the necessary amenities and just a few steps away from the most beautiful beaches on the coast.
