Portobello di Gallura, the ideal villa where to stay

Portobello di Gallura is an exclusive private village that has the ability to instill serenity to its visitors. Its coast is bathed by a turquoise and crystalline sea and is part of an idyllic natural context. Portobello has a coastline of 3 km and an area of about 100 hectares. It is located on the coastal stretch of western Gallura, in the territory of Aglientu, not far from Santa Teresa di Gallura. The village is surrounded by the typical and aromatic Mediterranean scrub, which perfumes the air and gives a sense of peace to those who breathe the natural essences. Spending a holiday period in a villa in Portobello di Gallura can be a balancing experience, which is good for the soul.

The prestigious Portobello Residential Park was founded in the 1960s, with the intent of creating an alternative to the elite tourism of the nearby Costa Smeralda, which was established around the same time by the will of His Highness Karim Aga Khan IV. Today, Portobello is one of the most popular Gallura destinations, hosting several artists and famous people, who love to spend their holidays immersed in the absolute tranquility of this heavenly corner. Among other VIPs, the destination is beloved by the family of the talented singer-songwriter Cristiano De André. The family is bond with this part of Gallura since the time when his father - the great Fabrizio De André - was alive.

Portobello di Gallura is far away from the hustle and bustle of modern life, but offers excellent and high-level services. In addition to the marina available to guests of the Park, there is a central Club House, a restaurant, a bar, a pizzeria and an exclusive beach lounge bar close to the beach, for meals, happy hours and classy aperitifs, as well as sports facilities, such as tennis courts and five-a-side football fields. The village is guarded by guards 24 hours a day, and can be accessed by passing a security checkpoint. Therefore, a holiday in Portobello guarantees total relaxation, in an oasis of peace, tranquility and absolute privacy. In this safe and almost secret place, time seems to have stopped: everything revolves around the sea, the unspoiled coast and the wild nature.

The ideal villa to stay in Sardinia could be found in Portobello di Gallura. The properties belonging to the park blend gracefully into the superb unspoiled landscape, minimizing the visual and environmental impact. The peculiar architecture of the village is the constant that unites the holiday homes and the exclusive villas, immersed with discretion in the Mediterranean scrub, just a few steps from the sea.

Among the many prestigious villas of the locality, we point out:

- Villa Gloriator: beautiful villa with private pool, located about 100 meters from the sea. With 4 bedrooms it can comfortably accommodate 8 people;

- Villa Belle: splendid independent villa with private pool, located in a quiet area, just a few steps from the beach of Baia Dell'Amore. The property has 5 bedrooms with a capacity of 10 beds;

- Villa il Rosso di Tramonto: villa with Jacuzzi and sea view, perfectly set in the context of Portobello, in an enviable position facing the emerald green sea. It represents an excellent compromise between elegance, modernity, and rusticity. Up to 10 guests can stay in its 5 bedrooms.

Beaches in Portobello di Gallura, what you need to know

Luxuriant evergreen Mediterranean scrub, fragrant maritime pines and enchanting junipers, frame the small beaches of very fine white sand, and the graceful coves surrounded by granite rocks. The sandy beaches are lapped by a crystalline sea with shades between cobalt and emerald green, while the shallow waters guarantee pleasant days at the beach even to families with small children. Among the best-known beaches, we mention the wonderful Spiaggia Rosa, the Pink Beach, a pearl with a sandy shore made up of tiny fragments of pink granite; the beach Baja dell'Uomo, which can also be reached by dinghies and small boats; the beautiful beach of Lu Culumbu; the Baja dell’Amore, a romantic beach surrounded by tamarisk trees.

Portobello is an excellent starting point to explore the surroundings.

Traveling west, in a few minutes by car you can reach the nearby coastal destinations of Anglona, such as the medieval Castelsardo and the sunny Valledoria, and also the other Gallura gem Costa Paradiso, set in the granite and its iconic beach of Li Cossi, as well as the famous seaside resorts of Badesi and Isola Rossa.

Proceeding towards east, on the other hand, you can reach the beach of Rena Majore and the marvelous Santa Teresa di Gallura and Capo Testa. A little further east we find Palau, Porto Rafael, the Maddalena Archipelago and the sparkling Costa Smeralda.

The hinterland behind Portobello also offers breathtaking glimpses and hilly landscapes, which are worth visiting. We suggest taking a trip to the towns of Aggius, Luogosanto, Luras, Aglientu, Tempio Pausania, Calangianus; to name a few Gallura towns rich in centuries-old traditions and food and wine specialties.
