Stintino is considered, along with Alghero, the spearhead of tourism in the north west Sardinia. On this page you will find our holiday homes and villas in Stintino and surroundings, whose location is ideal for visiting and exploring the whole area.
Stintino is both the name of the small fishing village and the peninsula of the same name on which it is located. The entire peninsula, as well as the overlooking Asinara island, have wonderful landscapes, paradisiacal beaches and a variety of fauna and flora unique in the world.
The main attraction of the area is the world-famous La Pelosa beach, of overwhelming beauty, ranked by bloggers and specialized magazines constantly among the top 5 beaches in Sardinia. Due to the conformation of the bay, enclosed by the Asinara and Isola Piana islands, the beach is protected like a pearl in a shell. The sandy shore is made up of very soft sand of a dazzling white, with a very shallow seabed for several tens of meters and a sea that is transparent and clean as the air, with amazing colors, ranging from turquoise to the most intense blue.
Behind the beach stands the promontory of Capo Falcone, of dark rock that glitters under the sun. On a small islet on the edge of the beach there are the ruins of an ancient defensive tower, which makes everything even more romantic. Tens of thousands of tourists visit the beach every year, falling in love with such beautiful scenario.
A further unmissable attraction in Stintino is the island of Asinara, whose southern end lies right in front of La Pelosa beach.
The island is breathtakingly beautiful, with its small pristine coves of a thousand shades of blue. The Asinara is also known for its local fauna, especially for the island's 'mascot', an endemic species of snow white donkey.
Today the island is part of the National Park and Marine Protected Area, so it is possible to visit it only with excursions lead by qualified and authorized personnel. The island boasts a very interesting history, as it once housed a maximum security prison, established in 1975, where Sardinian criminals and underworld bosses were imprisoned. The prison today is but a distant memory, although its presence helped to preserve the natural environment of the island, as the whole of Asinara was off-limits for safety reasons.
The village of the same name is also worth a visit. It is a picturesque fishing village, with two small characteristic harbours, where many Latin sailboats are still moored. Also interesting is the MUT, the “Tuna fishing Museum”, which collects evidence of the village's labour history.
