Cala Girgolu beaches

Considered among the most enchanting beaches in north east Sardinia, the beaches of Cala Girgolu are located near Capo Coda Cavallo, at the foot of Monte Petrosu. They are sandy beaches, with ochre-coloured, sometimes white grains, all connected by small nature trails. The shallow, crystal-clear seabed is an attraction for all snorkelling lovers: in fact, we are a short distance from the protected area of Punta Coda Cavallo, where nature shows itself in all its authenticity. A true corner of paradise!

The largest and best-equipped is Cala Girgolu beach, full of services such as beach resorts, food courts and dinghy hire. It is suitable for families with children, especially because the sea water is transparent and very shallow. In addition, there is a pond next to it where we recommend you stop for some birdwatching, as there are numerous species of local water birds.

Not far away, we find the Spiaggia della Tartaruga (Turtle Beach), which owes its name to the famous granite rock that, thanks to the action of the wind and the sea, has been modelled into the shape of a turtle. Not surprisingly, it is one of the most photographed attractions in Sardinia. Although it is a very small cove, it is nevertheless a special spot: the sand is soft and white and the sea so bright turquoise that it looks like a natural swimming pool.

Following along the coast, you will reach the Spiaggia delle Vacche (Beach of the Cows), immersed in greenery and therefore perfect for shelter during strong mistral days. Laying on its golden sand, you will have the breathtaking scenery of the islands of Tavolara and Molara in front of you. Impossible not to take a few photos to keep in your memories.

Finally, the last beach of Cala Girgolu, Sassi Piatti, is the most complicated to reach. It is therefore recommended for the more sporty, who are looking for particularly rocky (we suggest you bring suitable shoes) and less crowded beaches.
