What to do in North Sardinia if it rains

Visitors to northern Sardinia will have a lot to choose from when it comes to what to do when it rains. In fact, this area is particularly rich in small characteristic villages, museums, palaces, and churches full of history and charm.

To the west, one of the main towns on the island is the city of Sassari, whose historical center with its medieval character blends with 19th-century palaces and squares. When it rains, you can visit the city's most important museum, the Museo Archeologico ed Etnografico G.A. Sanna. Among the collections on display, visitors will find various artifacts from the Nuragic and Roman civilizations and even an exhibition of contemporary art. Another cultural activity we recommend is a visit to the city's cathedral, the Cathedral of San Nicola, an expression of a true union of architectural styles.

For shopping lovers, there are a few shopping centers just outside the city in Sassari, with clothing, shoe and jewelry shops, and so on.

If the weather is not particularly bad, you can visit several villages in the surrounding area and immerse yourself in the island's history. These include Castelsardo, with its impressive Doria Castle overlooking the sea; or the quiet fishing village, Stintino; or the wonderful San Pantaleo, a typical Sardinian village near Olbia.

What to do in South Sardinia when it rains

South Sardinia, with its natural and cultural beauty, also offers a range of activities to enjoy during the gloomiest of days.

Not to be missed is the city of Cagliari, the region's capital and most important hub. A tour through the streets of the center and the historic neighborhoods of Marina, Villanova and Bonaria and you will be surprised by such unexpected beauty. We also suggest a stop at the indoor market of San Benedetto to get in touch with the locals and discover all the typical local products: from bread to sweets, from fish to wines, and so on.

In the nearby coastal resort of Villasimius, it is worth planning a tour of its Archaeological Museum, which is especially interesting for the underwater artefacts found along the coast. If, on the other hand, the weather is slightly cloudy but not excessively rainy, there are many beautiful excursions on horseback from the beach of Porto Giunco to the Marine Protected Area of Capo Carbonara.

What to do in Sardinia when it rains. Children

Sardinia children's activities in the rain

Looking for something to do in the rain when travelling in Sardinia with children may seem even more complicated. Actually, a visit to the Cala Gonone Aquarium, about an hour's drive from San Teodoro, could be fun for your children. An unforgettable experience to see up close all the marine species that inhabit the island's waters, but also an educational activity to sensitise the little ones to the protection of the marine ecosystem.

Sardinia is also a land strongly linked to agro-pastoral activity. One way to bring your children into contact with nature is to visit one of the many educational farms in Sardinia. They can be found both near Alghero and in the Arzachena area, a stone's throw from the Costa Smeralda.
