How to reach Stintino?

Founded in 1885 by a group of fishermen from the island of Asinara, Stintino is still considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy to this day. The name of this small village is often mentioned in relation to La Pelosa beach. After all, it is the most famous beach in Sardinia. A unique attraction that, with its crystalline sea and white sand does not fear comparison with the most famous beaches in the world. The charm exercised by this town is such that it attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists every year, so much so that it becomes one of the first limited numbers of beaches in Sardinia (an initiative that is useful for making the experience more livable).

Let's see how to get to Stintino:

From Alghero airport, it is possible to reach Stintino by car passing through Porto Torres and following the signals. Otherwise, for those arriving from Olbia airport or Golfo Aranci, they must first reach Sassari along with the SS 131, following the road signs towards Porto Torres, and then take the SP 57.

There is no railway line that arrives in Stintino, but it is possible to reach it through the various transport services in the region that connect the main cities in the area with the center of the village and the La Pelosa beach.

Although it is preferable to travel by car to enjoy and discover the area, it is possible to use the shuttle service that connects the main beaches with the center of Stintino. But, even if more limited, a sedentary experience, if well organized, will be unforgettable. So whether your holiday is dedicated to discovery or total relaxation, we suggest some of our villas which, thanks to their unique location and characteristics, are perfect as a starting point for discovering Stintino and its wonders. Both by car and on foot.

Villa Linayre

A dream villa, one of the most exclusive in Sardinia. Its infinity pool is the stage for one of the most evocative shows on the island. The privileged view of the Falcone tower and the spectacle of the sunset you will see from here is impossible to describe in words. You can only admire it and be amazed.

Villa Il Rifugio del Bandito

A charming and welcoming villa, perfect for those who decide to spend their family holidays in Stintino. Thanks to its beautiful garden and its proximity to the main beaches it will make you feel at home.

What to see? Beaches and Stintino village

Among the must-see of Stintino, we can only start from the most beautiful beaches in the area. Surely the aforementioned beach of La Pelosa stands out among all. The crystal clear water and the landscape, framed by the Aragonese tower and the island of Asinara, make it one of the most evocative of the island. Given its incredible appeal, the access is subject to reservation. So much so that we recommend booking well in advance. La Pelosa enjoys such a great reputation that it obscures the other beaches in the area. These are often penalized by the presence of their "older sister", but for their beauty and peculiarity, they have nothing to envy.

To list them all would be impossible. But we want to point out the most beautiful beaches. Those you must-see during your stay in Stintino. Let's start from Le Saline, with its quartz sand, very white and candid, very similar to rice grains. The beaches of Ezzi Mannu and Pazzona, with their golden shades. All are characterized by crystalline waters that with their colours blend and mix with the reflections of the sand.

Changing coast, the fine sands give way to a rocky and lunar landscape. Coscia di Donna beach is certainly the main and most beautiful exponent of this type. Its emerald waters are a paradise for all snorkelling enthusiasts.

After the beaches, it is time to think about the excursions to do during your stay. Without a doubt, the nearby island of Asinara offers a varied series of trips and experiences suitable for everyone. From those in 4x4 for the more adventurous to catamaran tours or with the beautiful old sailing ships. Without forgetting those dedicated to the little ones on rubber trains.

One of the most interesting attractions of the island is the famous former maximum-security prison (although not always open to visitors inside) which during the second half of the 1900s hosted some of the most controversial characters of Italian criminal history. Registering only one escape in its 114-year history, it is the prison with fewer escapes in the world.

The center of Stintino is undoubtedly a place a little out of time, to visit in the evening as well as during the day. Where you can go shopping by purchasing souvenirs and local handicraft products or discover the gastronomic culture linked to its fishing traditions, in the numerous restaurants around the village. It is a simple cuisine based on fresh and local fish, shellfish, bottarga (dried fish eggs), and molluscs. In particular, the Stintinese octopus represents the best-known dish, which you will surely have the opportunity to taste.

The village of Stintino develops around the Church of the Immaculate Conception (founded in 1896) and the two small ports which, equipped for nautical tourism, make the village particularly romantic.

Lastly, trekking enthusiasts will find the suggestive route that crosses the typical lunar landscape of Capo Falcone of great interest. Once you reach the most extreme point, you can admire the spectacle offered by the beautiful view of the Gulf of Asinara.

Near Stintino there are several centres to visit including Sassari, Porto Torres, the Catalan city of Alghero, and the village of Fertilia. Therefore we suggest you also take a look at the following guide:
