Olbia is the fourth most populous city in Sardinia, with about 60.000 inhabitants, as well as a very popular tourist center in the northeast. The largest city in Gallura is also considered a very important hub and the gateway to the Costa Smeralda, thanks to the presence of a port and two international airports: the commercial airport "Costa Smeralda Airport" and the "General Aviation", the private airport where tycoons, state leaders and movie and sports stars land.
Among our proposals for villas in Olbia and surroundings, you will find the ideal accomodation for your holiday in Sardinia.
Olbia is a very ancient city, inhabited already in the pre-Nuragic, Phoenician, Greek, Carthaginian and Roman times. The remains of the settlements are still recognizable in various areas of the city, while interesting finds are preserved in the Archaeological Museum at the Brin pier.
The city has a lively nightlife, which takes place mainly in the pedestrian area of Corso Umberto, which in summer hosts numerous stalls of artists and craftsmen. From the pedestrian area you can reach in a few minutes the two main churches of Olbia, of undoubted historical, artistic and architectural interest: San Paolo church, with a remarkable majolica dome and the Romanesque basilica San Simplicio, dedicated to the patron saint of the city, which is celebrated in mid-May. The pedestrian area also offers the opportunity to taste the dishes of the local culinary tradition in the typical restaurants and in the numerous trendy bars and clubs.
In the Olbia area there are dozens of wonderful beaches, located above all in the various coastal hamlets of the Municipality of Olbia, such as Murta Maria where you can find Villa Berta, Pittulongu and the super exclusive Porto Rotondo.
A must visit is the Porto Istana beach in the territory of Murta Maria, reachable in just over 15 mins by car from Olbia airport. The bay is made up of four beaches, divided by small pink granite formations. It is protected and enclosed like a pearl by the surrounding promontories, which are covered with fragrant Mediterranean scrub. The seabed of white and soft sand like talcum powder for several meters makes it perfect for swimming and the water games of adults and children. The scenic view is completed by the imposing profile of the Tavolara island, the amazing island that stands out proudly on the horizon: a breathtaking scenery, impossible to forget.
Another enchanting village near Olbia is San Pantaleo, a wonderful spot perched on the Cugnana hill. Huge granite massifs with shapes sculpted by the winds and a dense Mediterranean scrub dominate the landscape of this idyllic village, from which the view extends to the Costa Smeralda. The center is attended by international artists, who draw inspiration from the natural wonders that surround the village to create their works. The market that is set up on Thursdays is also very interesting, with stalls offering various articles and merchandise as well as artistic products. Do not miss what is now a "ritual" of those who visit the nearby Costa Smeralda: the aperitif at sunset in San Pantaleo.
